Introduction

We are aware that there is a problem with Correos delivery in Blue Lagoon, although we have been told by Correos that the situation should be improving soon.

Correos have informed us that the mail delivery service is active, although a shortage of postmen is making delivery of post rather slow. Both the President and Administrator have been assured by Correos that more staff will be employed soon.

However, please note that delivery of any post is conditional on the address being duly specified and correct (see ‘What do I have to do to receive mail?’)

While we continue to work to resolve the situation, the information on this page may help with some issues.

Is the Correos delivery service in operation?

Correos have advised us that the service is in operation in Blue Lagoon, although there are currently some delays with delivery, due to lack of postmen.

The Administration have also sent several test letters to different parts of the Urbanisation, all of which have arrived correctly within a few days of being posted.

What do I have to do to receive mail?

Whoever sends you a letter or package it is important to have the correct address, which should indicate:

  • Your name
  • Street name This is the Calle name that your property fronts
  • Property number This is your padron number and NOT your Plot number
  • Postcode of the street followed by the town   This will be either 03193 San Miguel de Salinas OR 03189 Orihuela Costa
  • Name of the province   Alicante

As an example, the adddress for the property located in Calle Comillas 26, Parcela 4033, should read:

Calle Comillas 26, 03193 San Miguel de Salinas, Alicante

You do not have to use Blue Lagoon in the address, but if you want to, the address above would become:

Calle Comillas 26, Blue Lagoon, 03193 San Miguel de Salinas, Alicante

Do I have to have the padrón/property number on display?

Yes.  Correos have informed us that if there is no number on display, the post will not be delivered. Remember, Correos will not recognise the Parcela/Plot number!

It is therefore advisable to have the property/padrón clearly on display.

Where can I get the "blue" padrón number plaque?

You do not have to use a blue metal padrón plaque, however you must ensure that the property/padrón number is clearly displayed.

The blue metal plaques showing the property/padrón number, which measure 15cm wide by 10cm tall, are available from the desk on the ground floor at the San Miguel Ayuntamiento.

If you require a plaque you will need a padrón certificate, which, if you do not have one already, can be obtained at the same ground floor desk at the Ayuntamiento.  The cost of the padrón certificate is 1€. There is normally no cost for the plaque. Click HERE to see an example of a padrón number plaque.

I am not sure if I know my padrón number. How can I get it?

You can ask at the San Miguel Ayuntamiento, although we understand from the existing data in the Community that all the owners know this number.  It is your property number – NOT your Plot number.

Do I have to use my plot number in the address?

No!  This number is internal to the Community.

It is not advisable to use the plot number in the address, as it can create confusion.

My house is on an Alleyway. What is my correct address?

All houses on alleyways have an address of that alleyway.  For example, Calle Jodar, which has Calle Chipiona at the back of the properties is Calle Jodar.

Your postbox and house number should be located on the front of your house in the alleyway (Calle Jodar, as in the above example) – NOT on the back of your house which is in a different street (Calle Chipiona in the above example).

Although the main access to your house may be from the back of your house, your postbox and number should NOT be placed in that street, as there is a chance your post may not be delivered!

If your house is on a corner plot and your entrance has been altered to an adjoining street, your postbox and house number should be located on the original street/alleyway, even if if is not near the entrance to your property.

As a rule, your house number and postbox should be located on the street that is your address. Do NOT place postboxes/house numbers/plot numbers on the back or side of your property if those numbers do not correspond to the STREET that is your address.

Who delivers the mail?

The delivery of letters and packages is carried out by Correos, in the same way it is done for any house in Spain.

I thought Security delivered the mail.

On 03 July 2020 the Post Office in San Miguel informed the Urbanisation that, going forward, Correos would take care of delivery of all ordinary mail.  On 08 July 2020 all owners were advised, via email, of this new situation by the then Administration.

Previous to that time, Security had for a long time delivered ordinary mail. Data Protection rules now prevent this.

Do I have to have a specific type of letterbox installed?

No.  In principle, any letterbox model is valid.

Can I collect my post from the post office?

Yes. Blue Lagoon’s post is sorted and distributed from the La Zenia sorting office, which is situated in Calle Malaquita at La Zenia (opposite McDonald’s).  Click HERE for the location.  You can collect your own post from there.  The office is open Monday to Friday in the mornings until midday, and in the afternoon from 13.00 to 15.30.

The exception is undelivered mail that requires a signature.  You will be left a Notice which may indicate that it should be collected from the Correos in San Miguel, located in Calle Pablo Picasso. Click HERE for the location.

How do I complain to Correos?

The Correos website has a section to submit a complaint. Click HERE for the details.
