Waste Disposal Rules and Regulations

The Basics
  • PLEASE NOTE: There are some different rules that apply for those who have property in the San Miguel part of Blue Lagoon (post code 03193) and those that have property in the Orihuela Costa part of Blue Lagoon (post code 03189).  The rules for Orihuela Costa can be found by clicking HERE. The rules below relate to all of Blue Lagoon.

 

  • Please place ANY waste by the bins (marked with a green dot on the map below)
  • No waste is to be left on streets or paths outside properties. It will not be collected
  • Do not place ANY rubbish near a Bomberos (marked with a red dot on the map below)
  • Any green waste deposited should measure no more than 1 cubic metre
  • Fines exist for non compliance

 

  • Please respect Blue Lagoon Community by adhering to the rules
  • If you see somebody leaving rubbish incorrectly, approach them and inform them politely, as they may not know the rules. Refer them to the notice board at the Blue Lagoon Arch, the notice board in Calle Jaca or to the website – www.blue lagoon.community/waste
  • If you see somebody who is intent on illegally leaving rubbish, please take a photo and send to info@bluelagoon.community.  Please do not publicly post the photo, as this will prevent a prosecution.

Collection Times
  • General Household Waste:  collected on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
  • Green Waste: place by the bins on Wednesday for collection from Thursday. Please avoid leaving waste by the bins prior to Wednesday.
  • Please leave rubbish on the roadside, and NOT on the paths
  • Small Household Items: place by the bins on Tuesday for collection on Wednesday. Please avoid leaving items by the bins prior to Tuesday
General Household and Non Recyclable Waste
  • For all waste that cannot be recycled, please place in bags, and tie handles.
  • Put in the general household waste bins (marked with a green dot on the map below) at anytime, and close the bin lid after use.
  • These bins are emptied on a Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Green Waste
  • PLEASE NOTE: There are different rules for those who have property in the San Miguel part of Blue Lagoon and those that have property in Orihuela Costa part of Blue Lagoon.  The Rules for Orihuela Costa can be found by clicking HERE.  San Miguel rules follow below.
  • Green Waste can be deposited by a General Household waste bin (not outside a property) on a Wednesday evening, for collection from Thursday.  Do not leave green waste by the bins prior to Wednesday.
  • No more than ONE CUBIC METRE of green waste is allowed to be deposited per week per household.  For larger amounts of green waste, you need to hire and pay for a skip. (Skip hire available from Cash and Carry, San Miguel de Salinas.  Telephone 605 278 981).
  • No green waste is to be left on streets or paths outside properties. It will not be collected
  • Do not place ANY green rubbish near a Bomberos (marked with a red dot on the map below)
  • Please place as much green waste – especially leaves – in green garden waste sacks. Do not seal tops of waste sacks, so that waste collectors know there is green waste inside.
  • Contractors/workers that are hired by owners to maintain gardens, cut trees, palms, etc, must remove the waste from the Blue Lagoon Urbanisation, and not deposit the waste by the bins, or anywhere on the Urbanisation.
  • Fines apply for non-compliance.
Builder's Waste
  • There are NO CIRCUMSTANCES where it is permitted to leave ANY builder’s waste of ANY description (eg: tiles, rubble, concrete, pallets,etc) next to ANY of the bins or ANYWHERE on Blue Lagoon.
  • You will need to hire a skip or instruct your builders to remove and dispose of ANY builders waste to an authorised tip.  (Skip hire available from Cash and Carry, San Miguel de Salinas.  Telephone 605 278 981).
  • Fines apply for non-compliance.
Glass
  • Please use the designated containers (marked with a blue dot on the map below) to dispose of your bottles, jars (without lids) and any other glass items.   
  • The containers are green in colour, with a round top and marked with the following – “VIDRIO SI, GRACIAS“.
Plastic and Packaging
  • For example: plastic, drinks cans, tins, cartons, foil. Please place in the designated recycle bin (marked with a purple dot).

  • The containers are marked with the following – “LATAS, BRIKS Y ENVASES DE PLÁSTICO“.
  • All rigid plastic, including empty paint pots, should be placed next to bins.

Paper and Cardboard
  • For example: newspaper, magazines, paper packaging, cardboard, books, etc
  • Please place in the designated recycle bin marked with the following – “ENVASES DE CARTÓN, PAPEL, PERIODICOS Y REVISTAS“ (marked with a white dot with X on the map below).
  • Please flatten ALL cardboard boxes and place next to one of the general household waste bins, or designated recycle bins 
Oil
  • Please put in plastic bottles and place in the recycle bin at the juction of Calle Isla Cristina and Calle Ibi (marked with a yellow dot)

Textiles

Please give your unwanted clothes, bedding, towels, etc to a Charity shop, or place in one of the following pink recycle bins –

  • outside Euronics, on Calle Pico Lobo, El Galan
  • outside The View restaurant, at Calle Segovia, La Fuente (LOCATION)
  • La Zenia Boulevard car park near Alcampo
Small Furniture Items
  • For example – small cabinet, tables chairs, etc
  • Place by the bins on a TUESDAY for collection on a WEDNESDAY
  • Avoid leaving items by the bins prior to, or after, a TUESDAY
Large Furniture and Household Items
  • PLEASE NOTE: There are different rules for those who have property in the San Miguel part of Blue Lagoon and those that have property in the Orihuela Costa part of Blue Lagoon.  The Rules for Orihuela Costa can be found by clicking HERE.  San Miguel rules follow below.
  • For example – mattresses, sofas, large cabinets, tables and large electrical items (eg: fridges). 
  • Please contact the Ayuntamiento, preferably via WhatsAPP, on 687 92 06 57 to arrange collection. Include details of the item, the location and a picture.
  • Please check that your items are collected. If not, then please call or WhatsApp again to arrange collection.
  • It is NOT permitted to place house clearance items in the street. For this you will need to hire a skip. (Skip hire available from Cash and Carry, San Miguel de Salinas.  Telephone 605 278 981).
  • Fines apply for non-compliance.
